How to concentrate effectively

It's difficult to attain success in life if you're unable to concentrate effectively. If your mind is constantly distracted, how can you focus. If you are not able to concentrate on what you're doing, how can you expect to achieve your goals? Fore self improvement, it is essential to learn how to focus and concentrate. Here are some easy exercises that you can use to concentrate effectively.

1) Silence or Noise:
We are all different. Absolute quiet may help some concentrate effectively, while others work better in noisier environments. For example, a book on how to improve my writing claimed that it's important the environment be completely quiet and free of distractions. Another book suggests it really helps to get the creative juices flowing by playing your favorite music. I think both writers are correct,  it just depends on what kind of writer you are. You can test to see if you concentrate effectively in quiet or noisy environments by experimenting. How? Take a notepad and a pencil or pen with you and try and write down a letter within a set amount of time. Fifteen minutes is all you'll need to determine what circumstances will create better focus.

2) Focal Point:
Every morning, before you leave for work or on the way, stare at any object for ten minutes. You can do this while on the toilet, car or bus. If you haven't tried it, this might be harder than you think. No matter what happens, short of an emergency, continue to stare at that one object for ten minutes. Sound crazy? Perhaps. At least it will condition your mind to concentrate effectively on one thing, even if for a short period of time. This is a sort of meditation, and it builds discipline of mind.

3) Deep Breathing:
In the beginning, you can do this while staring at the object from tip number two, but if you wish to move towards real concentration, do this separately. Sit down on the floor. If its hard, place a cushion. Close your eyes. Breathe. Count the number of inhales. When you have reached 100, start counting backwards but this time count the exhales. Mastering this will take you a while, but once you do move on to other kinds of mathematical calculations such as naming the months of the year from December backwards or alphabetically. After that, make up exercises as you like.

4) Movement:
Watch animals, concentrate on a bird, dog, cat, ant or whatever. Watch every move they make, and look them over. This concentration exercise will help you to concentrate on movement, without becoming distracted. Sit and do this for 5 or 10 minutes a day. Who knows, your dog might like being the center of attention.

Conclusion:
If you practice these four steps a day, you'll be on you way to learn how to concentrate effectively. Best of Luck!
